FAQs

Title

Everything you need to know to feed with confidence

How much food does one kit make?

Each kit makes approximately 20 pounds of finished food.

Per Scoop:

1 scoop (or 19.6 grams) of Supplement Mix + 1 tsp Omega-3 Oil mixes 1 pound of prepared meat and water to make approximately 1.3 pounds of finished food.

You can make as much or as little as you like — perfect for testing new proteins or feeding multiple cats.

How do I use the Kit?

Each package includes simple instructions and a QR code linking directly to our Directions Hub, where you’ll find step-by-step guidance and helpful tips.

What kind of meat can I use?

For poultry-sensitive cats, many cat parents choose proteins such as pork, beef, rabbit, lamb, or venison. Always transition slowly when introducing new proteins.

You can use raw, par-cooked, or fully cooked meat, depending on your preference and your cat’s needs. Portion the food and refrigerate or freeze for later use.

Many cat parents rotate proteins for variety and enrichment.

Can I use fish as the protein?

Fish alone has a different nutrient profile and our formula is not developed to be used with fish alone. Even the majority of commercial cat foods on the market advertised as fish typically contain another source of protein as a base (ie. chicken, beef, turkey, duck).

Some ways to incorporate or use fish:

Cook up a salmon filet and top or mix a little into the cat's meal

The same can be done with fresh or canned tuna - Safe Catch is a great brand because they test for mercury levels

Freeze-dried salmon or tuna treats - crumble one on top of the cat's meal. (This is loved by all of our cats! We do it once per day so they don't tire of it)

Is it safe for kittens or senior cats?

Yes! Both formulas are AAFCO-formulated for all life stages, meaning they’re safe and balanced for kittens, adults, and senior cats alike.

Portion sizes can be adjusted based on age, weight, and activity level.

Can I mix homemade food with commercial cat food?

Yes — especially during transition. Mixing homemade food with your cat’s current diet can help them adjust gradually to new flavors and textures.

How should I store prepared food?

Prepared food can be refrigerated for 5–7 days or frozen for longer storage.

Thaw frozen portions in the refrigerator overnight. Microwaving directly from frozen is not recommended.

How should I store the Supplement Mix and Omega-3 Oil?

Homemade Cat Food Supplement Mix:

Store sealed pouch in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight - a kitchen cupboard or pantry is ideal. Do not refrigerate or freeze - this may damage the vitamins and minerals.

Omega-3 Oils:

If using often (a few times a month or more), store Omega-3 Oil in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. A pantry or cupboard is ideal.

If only using occasionally (less than twice a month), store your Omega-3 Oil in the refrigerator to preserve freshness and extend shelf life.

What's the difference between the two Supplement Mix formulas?

Chicken Liver Flavor: Includes Chicken Liver Powder for added nutrition and flavor. Great for most cats.

Liver Powder Free-0% Poultry: 100% poultry-free and allergy-friendly. Ideal for cats with chicken sensitivities or food allergies.

Excellent support for my rescued cats’ health

I would like to express my sincere appreciation for this homemade cat food supplement mix.

I recently brought a rescued kitten in for neutering surgery, and I was very pleased to hear from the veterinarian that he is in excellent condition with an ideal body weight and physique. He has been on this homemade diet since around 4–5 weeks old and has grown up healthy, strong, and very active.

I also have six other rescued cats who have been on this supplement for the past two years, and all of them are doing very well. One of them is FIV-positive, but he is also stable and healthy, which I truly believe is supported by this diet.

I prepare their homemade meals using chicken, and for two cats with food allergies, I use pork instead. All of them receive this supplement mix, and I truly believe it has greatly supported their health and well-being.

I am deeply grateful for this product and the positive impact it has had on all my cats. Thank you for providing something I can trust for their daily care.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experiences with our Homemade Cat Food Kit, Yuko! We are over-the-moon delighted to hear that it has made a positive impact on the health and well-being of your rescued cats. ❤️ It warms our hearts to know that our product has been a reliable and trustworthy support for their daily care. We are also happy to hear that your rescued kitten and six other cats are thriving on their homemade diets!

We truly appreciate your support and loyalty, as well as the opportunity to be a part of your cats' health journey. 😻 Your kitties are so lucky to have you!

Easy to order and make

Easy to order and easy to make. The instructions were easy as well and seem to be a very nice company to do business with. I gave them a 4 only because my cats would not eat it, but they are also finnicky. I had to order the liver powder free because they appear to have beginning kidney disease. I would otherwise give the company a 5 star because they also offer a sample kit, which is good to see if your cats will eat it. I should have done this..

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review. If it makes you feel better - our cats always need a topper on their food! Only one will eat most of his food without it 😆 Definitely check out the Troubleshooting Tips in the Direction Hub or let us know if you need additional support - we do our best to help! And yes, we offer the Trial Size Kits for that exact reason - cats can have very particular tastebuds! 😉 Thanks for sharing your experiences!

After trial and error, SUCCESS!

I wanted to share for those that are having beginner frustrations as I almost gave up after two batches. I finally found meat/meat mix and process that works for me and my cats after about 5 tries. Had to go through a process.

- 1st try: I cooked one pound ground turkey in oven (as suggested) and found they would rather eat cardboard, even with added liver powder, was discouraged and added half canned food to turkey, which they ate, reluctantly… they were a little miffed at me and I think I received more and extra hard biting that week.
-2nd try: cooked whole chicken in slow cooker Drained on pan, had to pull apart meat from bones…. Cats did like somewhat better than eating cardboard….less hard biting. Me, still discouraged, too much work, dishes everywhere. Someone may like this way if you want to use broth for cooking people food, albeit unflavored broth, but not for me.
-3rd try. Switched to half cheap ground beef/ground turkey cooked in slow cooker (Found slow cooker was easy, hands off for me after last try) Was having trouble forming the servings due to being watery so used muffin tins….dishes everywhere. Cats did eat this with only a little extra liver power, no added canned food, maybe only received one bite per cat this week. Me, still frustrated at all the dishes and cleaning up.
-4th try: Same process, same results. Emailed company about weighting the meat pre or post cooking, thinking raw weight contains the fluids where cooked does not (so much). Reply was either way is fine, but they do post cooking. Woohoo, so now I drain the cooked meat and add back 1/2 cup per pound to supplement (skimmed of fat). Can now form servings by hand and they stick together. Goodbye muffin tins! Cats good, can’t remember being bitten much this week. Me, ecstatic at minimal dishes. FYI, my one cat does need to take in more fluid, so I just add extra water to his individual feeding at mealtime.
-5th try: Switched meat to boneless, skinless chicken thighs due to increasing cost of beef/turkey (well everything, right?) Cooked in slow cooker, easy. Drain, skim, mix, form, freeze. Cats gone wild! Have to shut in another room when making and they eat it like they’ve never been fed before. Hum, did I get bit? Haha, of course, but maybe only “love” bites. Me, ecstatic! Meat choice economical, well received (too well!) and most importantly EASY CLEANUP. Just the crockpot, measuring cup/spoons/spatula, mixing bowl, and strainer. I throw them all in dishwasher, don’t care if it's full or not, turn it on. Finally…I’ve done it, whew 😅

I hope this helps if you’re having a rough start. I’m OCD, so I do use a cheap kitchen scale to weight meat, supplement, and serving size…but this is not necessary. Just follow the company suggestions for serving sizes….I did actual calculations based on the meat type cal/fat ratio and cat weight…and the calculations were are always in the ranges they suggest. Don’t sweat it, I stopped doing it. Also, I have a stand mixer and use this to make mixing a snap. I feel so good that I was able to stick it out and give my cats GOOD, nutritious, food with known ingredients. And, depending on the meat, it is actually the same to less per serving than the canned food I was using. I do still use some canned for convenience when needed.

I hope you found something here helpful for you and/or your furry friends. Do what you can when you can do it and Happy cooking!

PS: and thank you to this company that makes an excellent product at a FAIR price. I did some comparisons and I can tell this company is out for cats, not excess profits. Thank you!
