Non-GMO Catnip Seeds and Organic Soil

Our catnip refills are made with non-GMO seeds and an organic nutrient-rich soil blend designed to support successful sprouting. Each seed packet includes enough for 2–3 plantings, so if one attempt doesn’t sprout, you can easily try again.

The soil blend includes organic seed-starting mix (to support germination), earthworm castings (a natural plant food), and organic indoor potting soil. With proper care, catnip typically sprouts within 1–2 weeks, though some plantings may take a little longer.

Growing catnip at home gives your cat a fresh, chemical-free source of enrichment — straight from the planter.

Organic Wheat Grass Seeds and Soil

Our organic wheat grass refills are designed for easy, reliable indoor growing. The seeds are organic, non-GMO, and high-germination, and were tested to ensure strong, consistent growth.

Each seed packet includes enough for one planting and pairs with organic indoor potting soil to support healthy sprouts. When planted and cared for according to directions, wheat grass typically sprouts within about one week and fills out the planter in 1–2 weeks.

Fresh wheat grass offers cats a safe, natural way to nibble greens while adding enrichment to their daily routine.

Catnip Planting Directions & Care

Title

Planting Directions

Add the whole packet of soil to a bowl & mix the soil with warm water to moisten it - be careful not to oversaturate. Start with a few tablespoons and if the soil is still pretty dry, add additional tablespoons until all of the soil is moistened.

Set aside about 2 TB of the moistened soil, add the rest of the soil to the planter.

Tear Catnip Seeds pouch at the notch (make sure the seeds are at the bottom!) - sprinkle a pinch of the seeds on top of the soil. Save the rest.

Add remainder of moistened soil on top of seeds and pat gently. (Do not put too much soil on top - this will make it hard for the sunlight to do its job.)

Place planter in sun/part-sun - if possible, a windowsill that faces West and gets warm sunlight in the afternoon is perfect.

Check the planter daily and water as needed - mist with a spray bottle to keep the soil damp OR drizzle a little water on top using a watering cup or tablespoon - usually 2 TB will do the trick, but if the planter is light when you pick it up, drizzle a little more.

Sprouts may appear within 1-2 weeks, but sometimes it takes a little longer. (If sprouts do not appear within 3-4 weeks, sprinkle a few more seeds on top and continue to water as directed)

After the seeds have sprouted, mist the catnip daily or add 2-3 TB of water every other day. Adjust based on climate and humidity - the catnip plant may require more or less frequent watering.

When the leaves are about .5” to 1” wide, clip and present it to kitty!

Catnip Care Tips

Catnip needs sunlight and water regularly to stay healthy.

Warm months: mist daily with a spray bottle or water every other day with 3-5 TB, but adjust more or less as needed

If your Catnip is wilted: just give it some water! It should perk up within a few hours

Cooler/cold months: you may be able to go a couple days in between watering

Title

Add extra soil as needed - after continued watering, the soil may pack down. For best results, keep the soil at least 75% full in the planter.

Title

If the catnip leaves are turning pink/purple or curling under, your catnip needs some extra nutrients. (The soil gets depleted with watering).

We recommend organic Vegetable and Herb Food - it’s a natural fertilizer that contains nitrogen and potash. Dr Earth is our preferred brand of herb food - it also contains a plant probiotic.

Sprinkle 1/8 tsp of plant food on top of the soil in the planter and water the plant as normal. It will start producing green leaves again.

Title

If your cat loves it too much and it looks like the plant is destroyed, DON’T throw it out! Keep watering it normally - many plants start growing and producing new leaves and make a complete recovery! Just keep it out of reach from kitty during the recovery time.

How to Prune Catnip

When clipped regularly, the leaves will keep growing. Either snip leaves off with a scissors or gently pull it off from the base of the leaf stem.

If your plant is getting “overgrown” and the stems are super tall, it’s time to prune the ‘Nip! Using a small scissors, cut the stem(s) to about .5-1” from the soil level. It should start producing new leaves.

Planting Directions

Add the whole packet of soil to a bowl & mix the soil with warm water to moisten it - be careful not to oversaturate. Start with a few tablespoons and if the soil is still pretty dry, add additional tablespoons until all of the soil is moistened.

Set aside about 2-3 TB of the moistened soil, add the rest of the soil to the planter.

Spread the entire packet of seeds in an even layer over the soil in the planter - this will ensure a dense growth of Cat Grass

Cover the seeds with the remaining 2-3 TB of moistened soil and pat gently.

Place the planter in a warm area away from direct sunlight, but not in complete darkness, which can cause mold

From planting onward, check moisture daily and keep the soil moist (but do not over water). Misting the soil with a spray bottle works great to keep the soil damp. If using a watering cup or tablespoon, usually 3 TB will do the trick, adjust as needed.

After the sprouts start to appear, move the planter to a sunny location

After the seeds have sprouted, spray or add 3 TB of water daily. If the climate is humid or cooler, it might need water less often.

When grass reaches 4-5,” it is ready to give to your pet!

Cat Grass Care Tips

When cared for regularly, your full-grown Cat Grass can last up to 4 weeks!

Give 1-2 tablespoons of water every day. (If the soil gets too dry, it will flow out of the mesh drainage on the bottom of the planter.)

If your Cat Grass gets a little bushy or ragged (from the kitties munching on it), give it a haircut with a scissors - chop it straight across.

Put the Cat Grass on a windowsill (give it some sunlight) for at least a couple hours each day to make it last longer. Cat Grass left on the floor doesn’t last as long.

Allow kitty to eat the grass directly off the plant - no need to chop it off first.

Optional - put it in the refrigerator overnight or to store it for a couple days - especially if kitty needs a break.

When the Cat Grass starts to wilt or turn brown, that’s the sign you’ll need to toss it and replant!

FAQs

Title

Simple answers to common questions.

Is this safe for indoor cats?

Yes. The seeds are non-GMO, and the soil blends are made with organic ingredients suitable for indoor growing.

How long does it take to grow?

Wheat grass usually sprouts in about 1 week and fills in shortly after. Catnip typically sprouts within 1–2 weeks, though timing can vary.

What if my seeds don’t sprout?

That can happen occasionally. Catnip seed packets include enough seeds for multiple plantings, so you can try again.

Cat Grass Seeds have high germination and usually sprout without issue, when planted as directed.

Do I need a specific size planter?

The seeds and soil refills are meant for small planters around 3" wide/diameter x 3" high.
