FAQs

Title

Everything you need to know before trying homemade food

Why should I start with a Trial Size Kit?

Because every cat is different.

The Trial Size Kit lets you test homemade feeding at a lower cost before committing to a full-size product. It’s also a great way to see which meats or Omega-3 oils your cat prefers — with less waste and no pressure.

What’s the difference between the Original Formula and the Liver Powder-Free Formula?

Original Formula: Includes chicken liver powder for added nutrition and natural palatability. This option works well for most cats.

Liver Powder-Free Formula: Completely poultry-free and designed for cats with chicken allergies, protein sensitivities, or extremely sensitive digestion.

Both formulas are complete and balanced when prepared as directed.

Is this formula balanced even without liver?

Yes. This formula is carefully balanced with essential vitamins and minerals to meet feline nutritional requirements without relying on liver.

When prepared as directed, it meets AAFCO guidelines and provides complete and balanced nutrition for cats of all life stages.

How do I use the Trial Size Kit?

Add to a mixing bowl:

  • the prepared meat
  • Homemade Cat Food Supplement Mix
  • Omega-3 Oil
  • some water

Mix everything together thoroughly.

You'll set aside the Liver Powder Food Topper packet - if kitty is picky, sprinkle a little on top of the food when serving to increase palatability.

Complete instructions can be found via QR code/website url on the product packaging which links directly to our Directions Hub, where you’ll find step-by-step guidance and helpful tips.

Is it safe for kittens?

Yes. Both formulas are formulated for all life stages, making them suitable for kittens, adults, and senior cats when prepared as directed.

Adjust portion sizes based on your cat's needs.

What kind of meat should I use for sensitive cats?

For cats with chicken or poultry sensitivities, many cat parents choose proteins such as pork, beef, rabbit, lamb, venison or bison. Always transition slowly when introducing new proteins.

You can prepare it cooked, par-cooked, or raw, depending on what your cat prefers and what works best for your household.

How much food does a Trial Size Kit make?

Each Trial Size Kit makes about 1.3 pounds of finished food when mixed with 1 pound of prepared human-grade meat.

That’s enough for several meals, depending on your cat’s size and feeding schedule.

What if my cat doesn't like it right away?

That’s normal! And exactly why the Trial Size Kit exists. 😻

Many cats transition easily, especially with the help of the included Liver Powder Food Topper, which can boost aroma and palatability during the adjustment period.

For cats that need a longer adjustment period or more "encouragement," our Tips & Troubleshooting section provides guidance and ideas!

Can I mix homemade food with commercial cat food?

Yes. Many cat parents start by mixing a small amount of the homemade food into their cat’s existing diet and gradually increase the portion over time.

This slow transition can help picky or sensitive cats adjust more comfortably.

How should I store prepared food?

Prepared food can be refrigerated for 5–7 days or frozen for longer storage.

Thaw frozen portions in the refrigerator overnight. Microwaving directly from frozen is not recommended.

Incredibly picky eater

I have an incredibly picky eater who is also struggling with a recent inflammatory bowel disease diagnosis. I've struggled to find her food she will eat consistently without flare ups and finally came across the option of making food. She is not enjoying my attempts to find a protein for her but the pork liver powder has been a godsend!! She loves and adores it and will now patiently wait for me to sprinkle her food with it before she'll eat it and then she'll beg for more!

Highly recommend silicone molds! I made a pate texture and packed the molds with weighed amounts and froze. That way I can thaw her daily portions overnight and it's always fresh!

Easy Transition!

One of my two recently adopted cats has had diarrhea for at least 4 months (since I adopted him). I started making their food by slowly mixing in cooked meat with their canned food to transition them to a diet where I could control the ingredients. I ordered this kit to try it. They love it and had no issues with switching over, but I did gradually introduce it. I chose the anchovy oil as the omega oil. I also ordered the microbiome booster but haven't added it yet. Wanting to get their systems used to this first. I love that I can make their food and know exactly what I'm feeding them. I'll update my review after they have been on this for a while. I'm hopeful that the diarrhea resolves and that Orange Krush's fur thickens up.

My cat doesn’t like liver smell and this one works!

My cat loves chicken but hates the smell of liver. When I added the version with liver to her chicken she walks away. I’m so glad this liver free version exists! She can still tell something got added to the chicken, but she doesn’t mind it at all. Now I can make homemade wet food without worrying about unbalanced nutrients!

Pleasantly surprised!

I found this product while searching for a poultry free pre-mix to make my own cat food. Who knows what's going to happen in the near future with the bird flu, so I'm preparing to be able to keep my herd safe, without poultry products!

While making it the cats went wild just from the smell of the powder. The reviews were stellar and they all had clean plates. Even more importantly, the sensitive tummy in the bunch had no problem with the food.

Thanks for providing a poultry free alternative!

Thank you so much for your feedback! We're so glad the cats enjoyed the food - especially the sensitive stomach kitty! Yay! Thank you for your kind words - we appreciate you!

Yay!

We have tried several other homemade cat food multivitamin formulas and one of them had so much kep that it's 90% of the formula and our cat ate around it and then refused to eat the food with it even after several days and I respected that decision because I didn't think it looked appealing either. The other one we got was liquid and it had gums in it. This is the first one that just feels...energetically lovely to be honest. He immediately ate it and has not meowed at us for a change. I'll update how it goes with the larger size later on.

Cats love it this with the liver topper!

I was bit concerned at first when I served the normal turkey with the supplements. They weren't too excited about it. However, when I added the pork liver, their little eyes lit up. They ate it all up! Excited to serve them good healthy food from now on.
