Indoor cats thrive with natural enrichment and calming support, and fresh catnip offers both in a safe, clean way. Growing your own catnip indoors gives you full control over quality—so your cat enjoys clean, pesticide-free greens every time.

Fresh catnip naturally promotes relaxation, helping soothe anxious or easily overstimulated cats while supporting gentle digestion and fresh breath. Paired with a sustainable, plant-based 3D-printed planter, it’s a simple wellness ritual that’s good for your cat and the planet.

A fresh, natural way to support calm, enrichment, and joy.

Planting Directions

Add the whole packet of soil to a bowl & mix the soil with warm water to moisten it - be careful not to oversaturate. Start with a few tablespoons and if the soil is still pretty dry, add additional tablespoons until all of the soil is moistened.

Set aside about 2 TB of the moistened soil, add the rest of the soil to the planter.

Tear Catnip Seeds pouch at the notch (make sure the seeds are at the bottom!) - sprinkle a pinch of the seeds on top of the soil. Save the rest.

Add remainder of moistened soil on top of seeds and pat gently. (Do not put too much soil on top - this will make it hard for the sunlight to do its job.)

Place planter in sun/part-sun - if possible, a windowsill that faces West and gets warm sunlight in the afternoon is perfect.

Check the planter daily and water as needed - mist with a spray bottle to keep the soil damp OR drizzle a little water on top using a watering cup or tablespoon - usually 2 TB will do the trick, but if the planter is light when you pick it up, drizzle a little more.

Sprouts may appear within 1-2 weeks, but sometimes it takes a little longer. (If sprouts do not appear within 3-4 weeks, sprinkle a few more seeds on top and continue to water as directed)

After the seeds have sprouted, mist the catnip daily or add 2-3 TB of water every other day. Adjust based on climate and humidity - the catnip plant may require more or less frequent watering.

When the leaves are about .5” to 1” wide, clip and present it to kitty!

Catnip Care Tips

Catnip needs sunlight and water regularly to stay healthy.

Warm months: mist daily with a spray bottle or water every other day with 3-5 TB, but adjust more or less as needed

If your Catnip is wilted: just give it some water! It should perk up within a few hours

Cooler/cold months: you may be able to go a couple days in between watering

Title

Add extra soil as needed - after continued watering, the soil may pack down. For best results, keep the soil at least 75% full in the planter.

Title

If the catnip leaves are turning pink/purple or curling under, your catnip needs some extra nutrients. (The soil gets depleted with watering).

We recommend organic Vegetable and Herb Food - it’s a natural fertilizer that contains nitrogen and potash. Dr Earth is our preferred brand of herb food - it also contains a plant probiotic.

Sprinkle 1/8 tsp of plant food on top of the soil in the planter and water the plant as normal. It will start producing green leaves again.

Title

If your cat loves it too much and it looks like the plant is destroyed, DON’T throw it out! Keep watering it normally - many plants start growing and producing new leaves and make a complete recovery! Just keep it out of reach from kitty during the recovery time.

How to Prune Catnip

When clipped regularly, the leaves will keep growing. Either snip leaves off with a scissors or gently pull it off from the base of the leaf stem.

If your plant is getting “overgrown” and the stems are super tall, it’s time to prune the ‘Nip! Using a small scissors, cut the stem(s) to about .5-1” from the soil level. It should start producing new leaves.

FAQs

Title

Catnip Questions? We've got answers!

Is fresh catnip safe for all cats?

Yes! Fresh catnip is perfectly safe and often preferred by many cats over dried catnip.

About 70–80% of cats respond to catnip.

Kittens under 6 months of age may not be attracted to it or respond to it.

How long does it take for catnip to grow?

Catnip typically sprouts within 1–2 weeks, though sometimes it may take a bit longer — it’s a slow and steady herb!

Why is the planter made from PLA?

PLA is a biodegradable, plant-based material derived from corn.

It’s sustainable, lightweight, and shatter-resistant — perfect for curious cats.

What is SpyraFlow™ drainage?

SpyraFlow™ is a built-in mesh drainage and airflow system designed to prevent soggy soil and overwatering. It also promotes healthy root development.

How often should I water the catnip?

Water lightly when the top soil feels dry. Using a spray bottle to gently water the catnip daily is ideal - it provides enough water without overwatering.

Can I regrow more catnip in the same planter?

Yes! Each seed packet includes enough for 2–3 full plantings.

Just compost or discard the old soil, rinse the planter, and refill with new soil and seeds. (see Refill Options above) You can reuse your planter indefinitely.

Your plant should keep growing and producing leaves if cared for and pruned regularly.

What if my cat doesn't react to catnip?

Some cats prefer eating fresh catnip over playing in dried.

Fresh catnip still offers digestive and breath-freshening benefits even without the euphoric response.

Cat Grass Refill

I am excited to plant some cat grass because my cat loved it. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, so I’ll see how it goes. I planted them in my original planter. My cats also love the protein powders.

Thanks so much for the feedback, Lynn! We appreciate it!

Cute and functional.

The instructions were easy to follow and the cute cat-shaped pot made for an enjoyable purchase. It's already sprouting in my kitchen window right now. There are also plenty of extra seeds to keep the fun going and plant more.

That's so great! So glad it was easy to get the catnip growing! ;) Thanks so much for the review, Lindsay!
